Duplex steel 2205 (UNS S32205) is a ferritic-austenitic alloy with high strength and excellent corrosion resistance, ideal for offshore, petrochemical, and structural applications.
2205 Duplex Stainless Steel, designated as UNS S32205 and UNS S31803, is a nitrogen-enhanced duplex stainless steel that combines approximately equal proportions of austenitic and ferritic microstructures. It was developed to provide higher strength and superior corrosion resistance compared with conventional austenitic stainless steels such as TP304 stainless steel and 316L.
With around 22% chromium, 5% nickel, and 3% molybdenum, Duplex Steel 2205 offers excellent resistance to pitting corrosion, crevice corrosion, and chloride stress corrosion cracking. Because of its balanced microstructure and cost-effective performance, it is widely used in offshore oil and gas facilities, chemical processing plants, marine environments, and desalination systems.

As one of the professional and experienced 2205 duplex stainless steel suppliers, we help customers source corrosion-resistant piping solutions that meet demanding industrial requirements.
Duplex 2205 contains higher levels of chromium, molybdenum, and nitrogen than 304 stainless steel, providing significantly better corrosion resistance and nearly twice the yield strength. While 304 is suitable for general-purpose applications, 2205 duplex steel is commonly used in marine, chemical processing, and offshore environments where chloride exposure and corrosion resistance are critical requirements.
Duplex 2205 offers excellent resistance to rust and corrosion under normal operating conditions. Its high chromium and molybdenum content help protect against pitting, crevice corrosion, and chloride-induced attack. However, like all stainless steels, surface corrosion can occur if the material is exposed to highly aggressive environments, contamination, or improper maintenance.
Duplex 2205 pipe is widely used in industries that require high strength and superior corrosion resistance. Common applications include offshore oil and gas platforms, seawater systems, desalination plants, heat exchangers, pressure vessels, and chemical processing facilities. Its combination of durability and long service life makes it a preferred choice for demanding industrial environments.
When selecting a 2205 duplex stainless steel pipe supplier, look for compliance with ASTM standards, material traceability, third-party inspection capabilities, and proven export experience. A reliable supplier should provide complete mill test certificates, quality assurance documentation, and technical support to ensure the duplex 2205 pipe meets project specifications and long-term performance requirements.
